The Product

The Research

A Comparative Analysis

The Competitors

What can I learn about the competition and available products?

Key Takeaways

  • There are some really good products currently available

  • After reviewing the products, app ratings, and user reviews I was able to determine what features made each unique and where improvements could be capitalized on

Potential User Interviews

The Therapists

What insights did the therapists share with me?

Key Takeaways

  • We don’t have a lot of time between clients to process payments, rebook or change an existing booking

  • I don’t know how to use these online apps, they seem really complicated to get started

  • I need to process payments and track my financials by session type, preferably with the tax already broken out

The Problem

Findings from the comparative audit and interviews with Therapists helped me to evaluate and identify some users preferred needs and potential pain points.  Consistently, Therapists remarked that time, between sessions — for payment processing, rebooking or rescheduling as well as any note taking that they may need to do — as well as at the beginning and end of their day,  is always an issue.    I was able to narrow the problem down to three key takeaways,

Time/Payment Processing

Therapists are short on time between clients. They desire a quick, efficient checkout process.

Scheduling Changes

Therapists require the ability to re-book, reschedule and view current appointments quickly and easily.

Financial Tracking

Therapists want to manage their income by session type, as well as, day, week, month, quarter, year. With relevant taxes separated out.

Using this information I was able to breakdown and identify some key attributes, motivations, goals and frustrations to better understand the user.

I used this data to put together some  Personas

Meet Robert

Robert is shy to adopt new technology. He uses an older version iphone. He doesn’t use many apps and finds many of them difficult to initially set up.  Robert requires a better way to track client appointments and manage his financials.

Meet Anahita

Anahita has recently begun her own practice in a shared clinic with other psychotherapists. Anahita always feels pressed for time between clients, to process their payment and confirm or change their next session. She is currently using an online therapeutic tool. She would like to see more features for managing her financials. And a smoother initial setup.

The Design - First Iterations

Storyboards, Paper Wireframes, First thoughts

Pencil & Paper

Drawing on my research findings, I began quickly sketching a few initial ideas for critical screens. Keeping in mind that not all users and potential users are quick to adopt new technology. Opting for recognizable concepts and iterating on older model phone templates.
